CVFSA MUNICIPAL LONG SERVICE AWARD

Collaborative partnerships begin with an idea. After working with several municipal units we were asked to provide a uniform municipal long service award. Working with several partners in 2013 we developed the municipal long service award in the form of a medal. This provided a uniform accepted option for municipal units that wanted to recognize volunteer and paid-on-call volunteer firefighters who provided 30or more years of service to their communities. This allowed the municipal level of government to follow behind the federal government of Canada and the provincial territorial governments in showing recognition and thanks. CVFSA agreed to manage the program and provide a single point of business contact for those municipal units wishing to participate in this national program. Implementation of the program began on December 12th, 2013 where municipal units in seven provinces took advantage of the program. This medal insures that a national standard is maintained as to appearance, presentation and awarding of such a medal. Municipal units can include incorporated villages, hamlets, towns, cities and government structures, below the provincial, federal and territorial levels. The CVFSA has created an on-line record of the recipients in a national database for recognition by their peers, their families and members of the general public who have an interest in the fire service. The CVFSA maintain an inventory and supply of the municipal long service awards in the form of framed plaques and/or service medals that can be shipped to your community. Additional detailed information can be obtained through a written request to MLSAm@cvfsa.ca
