2016 “CVFSA Lifetime Achievement Award”©

Chief Clair W. Prior- Recipient of the 2016 Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Lifetime Achievement Award©

The 2016 recipient of this prestigious award is Chief Clair Prior, from Irma, Alberta. Clair originally joined the Irma Fire Department in 1963, he became Chief in 1967, a position he has held ever since, meaning he has supervised the Fire Department for 49 years.

 

Clair has been an avid volunteer in the community. He has been a municipal Council member, and a ringette hockey coach, as well as an active member of the Irma Elks. He did all this while maintaining a full time job as a firefighter with CFB Wainwright from 1967-1993.

he most important thing that Clair has contributed to the fire service is the recruitment and training of new members for the Fire Department. When Clair started there were only 5 or 6 members. The department now has 18 members. In 2008 Clair was also very instrumental in getting a new fire hall built for the Irma Fire Department.

Clair has been married to his wife Lynn for nearly 50 years. Together they have raised 5 beautiful daughters. They have 11 grandchildren, and an ever growing list of great grandchildren. He now has two grandsons that are members of the Irma Fire Department.
