Tessa Cox – Recipient of the 2023 Jim Hayter Memorial Scholarship
The Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association (CVFSA) and Metalfab Fire Trucks is
pleased to announce the recipient of the 2023 Jim Hayter Memorial Scholarship will be
Tessa Cox of St. Alban’s, Newfoundland.
Established in 2017 to honor the late Jim Hayter, a charter member of the Canadian
Volunteer Fire Services Association (CVFSA). Chief Hayter was also a firefighter with
the Alvinston, Ontario Fire Department for 44 years, 15 of which he served as Fire
Chief. In addition to his dedication to the Fire Services, Chief Hayter was extremely
active in the community including serving as Deputy
Mayor.
Tessa will be attending the College of the North Atlantic in St. John’s, Newfoundland in
the fall of 2023. Tessa will be studying Primary Care Paramedicine.
Tessa has been an active community volunteer, and has an extensive list of experience.
Tessa has helped fundraise for people who have lost their homes to fires, or tragic
events. Tessa’s involvement in the Food Bank has opened her eyes to see just how
much people need that service.
Tessa learned her love of volunteering from her parents. Her father, Perry Cox, is a
volunteer with St. Albans Volunteer Fire Rescue.
The 2023 “Jim Hayter Memorial Scholarship”© of $1,500 is based on the involvement of
the applicant with their school and community and also the academic standing of the
applicant.
