Trenton Straatman – Recipient of the 2022 Jim Hayter Memorial Scholarship©
The Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association (CVFSA) and Metalfab Fire Trucks is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2022 Jim Hayter Memorial Scholarship will be Trenton Straatman of Watford, Ontario.
Established in 2017 to honor the late Jim Hayter, a charter member of the Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association (CVFSA). Chief Hayter was also a firefighter with the Alvinston, Ontario Fire Department for 44 years, 15 of which he served as Fire Chief. In addition to his dedication to the Fire Services, Chief Hayter was extremely active in the community including serving as Deputy Mayor.
Trenton will be attending his 2nd year Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario in the fall of 2022. Trenton is studying Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology-Ind (ICET).
In College Trenton lost his best friend Tanner Redick due to a car accident. Trenton and a group of friends created the Tanner Redick Memorial 2-pitch Tournament. In the first year they raised $20,000 in our first year and donated it back to the community and are running it again this year.
Trenton is a member of the Warwick Fire Department in Ontario. He learned his love of volunteering for the Fire Service from his father, who also volunteered for Warwick Township.
The 2022 “Jim Hayter Memorial Scholarship”© of $1,500 is based on the involvement of the applicant with their school and community and also the academic standing of the applicant.
